French semi market up 8.6% in Q1

PARIS — The Sitelesc, the French Electronic Tube and Semiconductor Industry Guild, reported an 8.6-percent sequential growth for the first quarter 2008. The growth is, however, stable on an annual basis.
In the first quarter of 2008, the Sitelesc stated that integrated circuits (ICs) grew by7.8 percentand discrete semiconductors increased by12.4 percent.
The Sitelesc said it has observed that the distribution(27.9 percent),automotive(21.5 percent)and industrial(16.3 percent)sectors were among the most representative areas of the French semiconductor market in the first quarter.
On a sequential basis, the highest variation appeared in the distribution(up 35.3 percent),the industrial (up20.1 percent)and automotive (up10.3 percent)sectors. On the opposite side, the telecommunications and computing sectors decreased.
Moving to product lines, the Sitelesc noted that MOS micro ICs had a 46.9-percent market share in the first quarter of 2008. Discrete semiconductors and analog circuits had market shares of21.5 percentand15.6 percent,respectively. Finally, digital MOS ICs had a 11.5-percent market share.
For the year 2008, Sitelesc said it does not "anticipate an annual growth". The year will remain stable, in the best of cases. The reason is that no fast growing sector has been identified yet.
